In a rare exclusive interview, the Defense Minister spoke at length about India’s strategic priorities and the path of modernization.
On border tensions: “Our forces are fully prepared. We have invested significantly in infrastructure along the borders — roads, tunnels, advanced bases. Diplomacy continues, but deterrence is non-negotiable.”
On Atmanirbhar Bharat: “Our defense exports have crossed Rs 20,000 crore for the first time. From a net importer, we are becoming a competitive exporter. BrahMos, ALH helicopters, radars, and many other systems are now sought globally.”
On modernization: “Theaterization will be implemented soon. It will transform how our three services operate jointly. We are also investing in cyber, space, and special operations.”
On welfare of soldiers: “Modernization includes their lives — better housing, medical care, educational opportunities for families, and meaningful second careers after service.”
