Cyber Security in the AI Era: New Threats and Defenses
The cybersecurity landscape has been irrevocably transformed by AI. On one side, attackers use generative AI to craft personalized phishing campaigns at scale, generate malware that evades traditional detection, and conduct deepfake-enabled social engineering. On the other, defenders use AI for threat intelligence, anomaly detection, and automated response.
For India, the stakes are especially high. As we digitalize rapidly — through UPI, Aadhaar-linked services, and digital governance — our attack surface expands. Critical infrastructure, financial systems, and personal data are all vulnerable.
The Digital Personal Data Protection Act provides a strong foundation, but implementation must be robust. We need a national cybersecurity strategy that combines technology, policy, talent development, and international cooperation.
Most importantly, every citizen must become cyber-aware. Strong passwords, two-factor authentication, scepticism toward suspicious communications, and regular software updates are basic hygiene. Organizations need security-first culture, not just compliance checkboxes.
